I love looking at old woodcuts and engravings of demons, devils and those horned punishers awaiting sinners in hell. My favourites are those with extra faces over their nether regions – these extra faces (with sometimes even more grotesque features than their regular faces) were intended to symbolise the sin of lust and wanton sexual temptation, and reveal the true face of evil.

I was wondering….if these double-faced demons took selfies, which of their faces would they shoot? And thus was born a series of selfie demons, taking “hellfies” for Hellstagram.

These two demons are posing for a hellfie after a successful day tormenting the damned. The banner winding around them says “Corruptio optimi pessima” which is Latin for “Corruption of the best is worst”. This piece is set in an ornate floral black wooden frame.
