My take on the traditional skull & crossbones motif – though I made the bones quite detailed and realistic with lots of extra line etching. I created a curling banner design with the words memento mori, and etched it in a smoky, mottled style into the front glass. It’s set in a black wooden frame.
It is difficult to take good shots of glass-framed pieces from all angles without reflections. As the etched design is on the outermost surface of the glass pane, it creates a slightly 3D effect – the design is raised up from the background and casts a faint shadow on the underlying mat, and it’s more visible in some angles than others, so variously angled shots will give you a good idea of the effect of the finished piece.
