I’ve been experimenting with decorative mats and glass etching lately. A crowned, knotted snake is bordered by a diamond shaped charcoal mat with a dark stencilled pattern edging and tiny black snake designs in each corner, and placed under glass with a twisting vine design etched into it. There’s a tiny gem set into the crown of the snake, it’s polished up to a bright finish and framed in an ornate black wooden frame.
It has been difficult to take good shots of this glass-framed piece from all angles without reflections, but I’m endeavouring to do my best, as the etched design is on the outermost surface of the glass pane so it creates a slightly 3D effect – it’s raised up from the background and casts a faint shadow on the underlying mat.
